Last week, Africa Capacity Alliance hosted five institutions through the GIZ BACKUP INITIATIVE project in a two day training workshop, as one of the capacity solutions following gaps identified from capacity assessments conducted for the organisations in June and July 2014.
The ACA project team conducted a detailed diagnosis of the Results-Based Management capacity gaps and identified gaps, which would be aligned to capacity solutions that include training, experimental learning, on-site mentoring and technical support and follow-ups.
The workshop was unique in its approach to leadership and governance as it brought organisational development closer to the Board Members and the institutions’ management and offered relevant modules for easier comprehension. The training delivered a core foundation of leadership and governance skills integral to the survival and growth of MARPs focused CSOs. It was delivered through a blended learning platform, which maximized understanding and interaction.
The training workshop was very interactive and informative as it was delivered in a good learning environment. In addition, the course was useful in establishing professional contacts. From their feedback, the respondents highlighted some strengths of the course, including the facilitator’s understanding of leadership and governance, good facilitation and content. The mode of delivery entailed group discussions and activities, developing action plans and interactive participations that enabled participants to gain insights on leadership and governance strengthening, including knowledge on roles and responsibilities of members of Board of Directors. These sessions provided a basis for experience sharing and networking for participants.
Subsequently, ACA conducted a two day workshop on mentored grants for the CSOs’ project managers and finance teams. Bar Hostess Empowerment and Support Program (BHESP), Neighbors in Action Kenya (NIAK), Mother’s Delight Moments (MDM), Hope Valley Family Institute (HVFI) and Community Health Africa Trust (CHAT) are the five CSOs that ACA is partnering with to implement the Institutional Strengthening project in results based management for Most at Risk Populations that GIZ is supporting through the BACKUP initiative.
